Undercar Services: Maintenance & Repair

Rely on Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair in Asheville, NC 28801 to provide quality care for your vehicle's undercarriage. Stop by our shop to see how we can help you or call 828-258-0548 for more information.

To keep your vehicle running at peak performance, we provide undercar services that include:

Alignment
Wheel alignment (or simply alignment) is standard car maintenance that involves adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are set to the manufacturer's specifications. The main purpose is to let the suspension and the steering systems operate at their desired angles - this reduces tire wear. Alignment is a complicated process and not all mechanics get it right. To have experts handle your car's alignment, visit Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair.

Anti-Lock Brakes
Anti-lock brakes prevent wheel lock-up when rapidly decelerating by automatically modulating the brake pressure during an emergency stop. With this system, the wheels are able to maintain traction with the road while braking. Failure of the anti-lock brakes could lead to an increase in the risks of multiple vehicle crashes and run-off road crashes. To avoid this, have your anti-lock brake system checked and repaired by experts. At Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair, we have anti-lock brake experts who will examine and repair your faulty ABS - keeping you safe.

Brakes
A brake is a mechanical device for slowing or stopping a vehicle (usually by means of friction). In short, a brake inhibits your car's motion. It lets you stop the car whenever and wherever you choose. Brakes are one of the most important parts of a motor vehicle. Without them, you would not be able to stop the car. If your vehicle's brakes are having issues, consider having them worked on. Brake experts at Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair can work on your car's brakes to ensure you have a safe drive.

Chassis
A chassis is the car's internal framework that supports the body and other parts like the wheels, engine, transmission, driveshaft, differential, and suspension. A weak or damaged chassis will translate to a weak car. To have a strong and properly working vehicle, have your car's chassis checked for defects. At Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair, there are experienced undercar service providers who can work on your chassis.

Differentials
The differential transfers the engine power to the wheels. One important function of the differential is to pass on power to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds - thus the name differential. When turning, the outer wheels travel a larger distance than the inner wheels do (also the front wheels travel a longer distance than the rear wheels). This means that all four wheels travel at different speeds during a turn and this is where the differential comes in to help. To make sure your vehicle's differentials are working properly, have them checked regularly. Contact Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair today for differentials examination and servicing.

Driveline
A driveline is a part of your motor vehicle that connects the engine and the transmission to the wheel axles. The driveline consists of the parts of the powertrain less the engine and transmission. Failure of the driveline means that the car would not move since energy cannot be transmitted from the engine to the wheel axles. Therefore, make sure that your car's driveline is regularly inspected and serviced. And, at Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair, you can have the driveline serviced by experts.

Tires
As tires get older, they lose traction and deteriorate from the inside out, increasing the likelihood of a tire bursting. This can cause a rapid loss of control of your vehicle. To have a better performing vehicle, you need to make sure the tires are in good condition. For all your tire needs, contact Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair today.

Shocks
Shocks (or shock absorbers) are mechanical devices designed to smooth out rough roads. The devices do this by converting kinetic energy to another form of energy. Properly working shocks reduce the effect of traveling over rough ground, leading to improved ride quality and vehicle handling. When shocks develop problems, driving on poorly leveled roads becomes unpleasant, and your vehicle may sway when turning. To have your vehicle's shocks diagnosed and repaired, visit Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair today.

Struts
Much like a shock absorber (shocks), your car's struts provide a dampening effect as you travel over a road's surface. By absorbing the shock of the road, struts allow passengers to ride in a car without constant and uncomfortable motion. Struts work a bit differently than shocks in that they provide structural support for your car's suspension. This means that struts support your car's weight, unlike shocks which only regulate the speed at which the weight is transferred. Struts usually last around 50,000 or 60,000 miles. This is simply because the damping characteristics of the parts gradually deteriorate over time. Call Mike Byer Auto and Truck Repair at 828-258-0548 if you have questions about the struts on your car. Our expert technicians will diagnose any problems and help you make an informed decision about repairs.

Testimonials

  • This is the best Auto mechanic in Asheville hands down. Mike and his crew have worked on all my vehicles for almost a decade. Everything from oil changes to complete engine replacements. I have never had any problems, they always do a great job and finish the work in a timely manner. Finding a trust worthy Auto mechanic is not an easy task, Mike is the best I have ever worked with, his knowledge is vast which makes him one of the best at diagnosing problems.
    -G. R.V.

  • I always buy new vehicles, so I rarely have mechanical issues with my cars. However, I typically order new tires for my cars online, and have gone to Mike Byer for years to have those installed on my cars. I also have my inspections done there, and as a matter of fact had new tires installed and an inspection done last week. I also know others who use Mike Byer, and have never heard of anyone having a bad experience. These guys are unfailingly polite, courteous, professional, and fair. Their pricing is the best in town, and I trust them (something that you value highly when dealing a mechanic, obviously). I would recommend them to anyone in the Asheville area who needs an auto mechanic.
    -Brian C.

  • I have used these folks twice now and each time they gave me clear reports of what they found and options for each including if/when/how to approach each. Their prices are great and things were done when promised. Great folks to work with!
    -Todd D.

  • I moved to the area 6 years ago and never thought I would find someone I trusted to take care of my car troubles. I'm so glad I found Mike Byer. Everyone is always very polite and respectful, in my experiences. Every service or repair I've had was completed in a timely manner and either at or under the estimated cost. They've come through in the clutch when I needed an oil change before making an emergency trip out of town and even checked my tire pressure. I show up without an appointment, having a tire that needed a patch and they handled it with grace. These folks treat you like a person and a member of a community, not like a dollar sign. This is also one of the few places that hasn't treated me differently based on my gender or what they assume I know about cars. I would highly recommend Mike Byer Auto for ALL of your automotive needs. Thanks guys, keep up the fantastic work!
    -Holly M.

  • An excellent example of a solid local and trusted shop. I've gone there several times and driven away feeling that what I asked for was done properly and at a reasonable cost. Reliability is worth a lot to me and I've not been let down.

  • Have been a customer of Mike's since 2008 and have had nothing but consistently successful experiences with him and his staff. In the automotive field, it's rare to find a trusted and highly experienced group of personnel who accurately troubleshoot the full variety of automotive issues, and who keep the customer's best interests a priority. His facility provides a personalized and comfortable atmosphere where the customer can feel confident in making a well informed purchasing decision. He and his associate, Sumpter, both have a way of reporting diagnostic results in a language that any customer can easily understand. In short, I would recommend anyone to Mike Byer Autoworks.
